Hi! I’m Natalie.
I’m an illustrator working and playing in Colorado. I love making illustrations that celebrate the wonder in the world around us or capture little stories worth remembering—often with a touch of whimsy.
Years ago, on a trip to Zurich, Switzerland, I walked into an exhibit about the children’s illustrator Alois Carigiet — and immediately fell in love with children’s book illustration.
While I pored over the beautiful spreads in A Bell for Ursli, the seed to focus on children’s illustration was planted. However, it would take me many more years before I realized this was the type of work I wanted to create and developed the artistic style I wanted to use to tell these fantastical stories.
For me, creating is like a tree spreading seeds into the air. As the wind takes those seeds, many will be lost, but you hope that one idea will land, take root and become a story or work of art that touches someone’s heart and means something special.
As a storyteller, I gravitate towards natural settings and creating the characters that live in those environments so that they work together to create a meaningful (and sometimes whimsical) narrative.
Most days, you can find me developing individual pieces, crafting children’s stories, and building a soon-to-open digital shop — all while enjoying as many meaningful moments as possible with my husband, kiddos, two border collies, and one tuxedo cat.
